A Much Needed Girls Day

September 13, 2009

9-13-09_breakfastEvery once in awhile it is good to have special days. Days where you allow yourself to go out to eat at a restaurant or to splurge and have a special dessert. Weight Watchers allows for days like these with an extra 25 points each week over and above your daily allotment of points. Today was one of those days for me. My Mom and I had a girls day.

I had breakfast at home. Today it was a quick bowl of oatmeal. It was the instant kind that comes in packets and you microwave. Not a bad way to spend 2 points.

I took my Mom out to my favorite restaurant for lunch. It’s a Greek style restaurant that I’ve been visiting since I was a teen. I ordered Chicken Souvlaki. It was delicious!

Cubed chicken on a skewer, marinated in a mixture of Greek herbs and spices. Served on a large plate with rice pilaf and a Greek salad. I only ate half of this and had the rest boxed up so I could take it home and eat it later. (or give it to one of my family)

My Mom and I saw the new movie Julia & Julia. Awesome film! I’ll definitely be buying it when it comes out on DVD. After the movie we got some shopping done. Tomorrow I will have to post a picture of me in the new outfit I bought.

We also went out for Dinner. I ordered a soup and salad. We had such a great time together. I didn’t end up getting home till about 9 p.m. My family missed me but were glad I had a great day. We all need a special day every once in awhile.

My Daily Points Target = 32
Total points spent = 29
Breakfast: Oatmeal = 2 points
Lunch: half an order of Chicken Souvlaki = 10 points
Coffee with cream and sugar = 4 points

Today was an odd meal day. I wasn’t really hungry until dinner time so I didn’t eat until then. Around 10 p.m. I realized I was starving. I couldn’t go down to my kitchen because our Oregon guest’s bedroom is right off the kitchen and I didn’t want to wake them up. I had only spent like 9 or 10 points for the day so I thought I’d go through drive-through real quick and grab something to eat.

If people were to look at what I’ve been eating this last week they wouldn’t believe I’m trying to loose weight. I’m not saying I’ve made the best choices this week but I really love that the Weight Watcher’s program is so flexable. It allows for real life to happen. I don’t want to eat fast food every week but it’s nice that I don’t have to give up those types of food forever. I also love that I’m not beating myself up for having a fast food meal. Before I would of felt like a hopeless fat pig who was never going to be anything differant. Now I feel like I have the power and control to eat a meal like that and know it won’t ruin all my positive changes I’ve been making. I’m in control of food, not the way it has been, Food in control of me.

I had a really good morning full of lots of fun productive things. So productive that I didn’t eat breakfast. I really wasn’t that hungry anyway though. Later in the afternoon, after C had gotten home from work, we all went down to the marina to see the 4th of July activities going on. There was live music, face panting, games and lots of food. C and the boys divided a couple bags of cotton candy. We stayed for an hour and instead of paying the crazy booth prices for food we instead drove to McDonalds.

I was so proud of myself. I hadn’t eaten breakfast so I was hungry and had a lot of points so I could of chosen my usual hamburger and fries. I didn’t need them though. If I had desired them I would of allowed myself the pleasure but I really didn’t even crave them. I ordered a salad. Not because I’m on a diet but because a salad actually sounded delicious to me. And it was good. It really did satisfy me. The grilled chicken in it was yummy good.

Later that evening family began to arrive at the house to watch the fireworks. The home we live in has a beautiful view of Bellingham Bay where the city does it’s firework show. We grilled hamburgers for dinner. I had a burger without the cheese, a little bit of chips and a bunch of fruit. I even had points for some pie. mmm it was good pie and even more delicious because I had budgeted my food well for the day.

It was a great day.
